Hi All

I have been using Yamaha PSR410 for years now (10+) and its time to
upgrade to a professional synth. I have used friend's Roland XP60 and
I like it. However, I wanted to hear other's opinions on comparable
Korgs (Triton, etc.) and Yamaha (Motif, S80, etc.).

I want to be able to play it live (portability is important) and use
it for indoor studio recording (sequencer, sampler, etc.). I heavily
use strings, violin, brass, flute and some indian instruments such as
Santoor and Sitar. I intend to do my own compositions specially light
pop, jazz, indian & arabic blends. And I want to use the keyboard for
next 10+ years.

Any suggestions/comments will be welcome.

Thanks

Vipul

I don't own one of this synth's. I got a Roland W-30 and a Yamaha Dx7 .
However, I am very inetersted in the Yamaha Motif range . As I could
compaire it with the Korg Triton, Roland Phantom in my neightbour shop .
Here is my opinion ( only concerning my own tastes ) :

Korg Triton : sounds good if you only test this machine , prices are good .
However a little bit 'cheap' in sounds .
Roland Phantom : has very good sounds if you like fat sounds . However ,
this is not always usefull if you want a natural sounding gear .
Yamaha Motif : here we are with a very good sounding synthesizer . Voices
are quiet natural and the synth can be extended with boards .

Furthermore the Yamaha motif ES series are out and give the advantage of a
124 key polyphony and a better soundbank ( I didn't test this gear ). The
good news is that the ES series of Motif should be nearly at the same price
as the standard Motif range .

go for the Korg triton studio !!!

it is 10times better than the XP60........however the Roland phantom is the
korgs competition if you like/love Roland !

i used the XP80 for a long time and it does'nt even compare to the triton !!

the triton is a very serious synth and powerfull instrument.....check out
there site and specs
