Hey,
go here: http://www.buchty.net/ensoniq/ and download ESQ138 found at
the bottom of the page. That has a load of sounds that it comes with.
There's also a seperate page for additional .syx sound files if you
need them. Loading the sounds that come with the program is quite
straight forward, and I can gurantee that quite a few banks that come
with it have the majority of the rather ehem, cheesy GM sounds you're
looking for:) But don't expect any photorealistic interprations of
those sounds-the ESQ can only do so much (and they'll have different
names)!
I didn't see any thunder sounds, but I did see some interesting animal
noises i.e. lion, seal, and um... pig, that you could prolly modify to
sound thundery... hope that helps!

Soon I'll be digging out my old ESQ-1 from storage to compliment some new
equipment.
Patches are what I'll be looking for too. One thing I found already is an
Ensoniq Rescue/Patch
CD being offered on eBay.

One thing to bear in mind here: The ESQ-1 and SQ-1 are totally different
instruments with incompatible architectures. Sounds from one will not play on
the other.

There was tons of support (and new sounds) for the ESQ-1, but practically
none for the SQ-1.
